Gary Heseltine

Gary Heseltine is a parapsychology researcher whose work appears in the primary literature on psychokinesis (PK) and random number generators (RNG).

Research focus

Heseltine conducted experimental studies on the relationship between EEG activity and the operation of electronic random number generators. His 1977 paper, “Electronic random number generator operation associated with EEG activity,” published in the Journal of Parapsychology, examined whether brain electrical activity correlated with PK effects on RNG devices [3]. He followed this with further RNG-PK research in collaboration with Mayer-Oakes (1978), which produced significant results on individual events, though the results on majority-vote outcomes were less conclusive [5].

Software development

Heseltine also contributed to the technical infrastructure of parapsychology research. In the early 1980s, he and associates at SURF developed one of the first software packages for microcomputer-based psi tasks, designed for the Apple II computer and paired with an electronic random generator device. This represented an early computational tool for administering psi experiments in a standardized, automated way [4].

Recognition in the field

Heseltine’s work has been cited in subsequent parapsychology research. His RNG-EEG studies are referenced as notable examples of research integrating electrophysiological measures with PK methodology [3], and his experimental findings on PK and RNG have been discussed in theoretical analyses of psi information redundancy [5]. He is also acknowledged among colleagues in laboratory-based parapsychology research [1][2].
