Methodology

Automated ganzfeld system. Correlation between z-scores and the verbal Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking was significant for musicians (rho = .358, p < .02) but nonsignificant for the group overall and for the other subgroups [4]. Extroversion was nonsignificant for the overall group (rho = .021) [4].

A predicted negative correlation between geomagnetic activity (global aa index) and psi success was in the predicted direction but not significant (rho = .224) [2].

The pre-specified negative-emotion hypothesis was not confirmed at conventional significance, attributable in part to the small number of trials (5) [1]. NEO-PI-R / Big Five personality correlates [3]: The Psi Index (composite of self-reported psi experiences) correlated positively with openness to experience (r = .20, p = .02, one-tailed) and with the Fantasy facet (r = .22, p = .02, one-tailed). Skeptical critiques

What critics argue. The sources retrieved for this question include no published criticism attributed to a named skeptic directed specifically at Dalton’s studies. The security paper itself, however, documents an internal critical concern: the possibility of acoustic leakage between the sender’s room and the experimenter — a pathway identified in prior analysis of PRL autoganzfeld work and addressed as a design problem in the Edinburgh system [6]. The 1997 creativity study and the 1998 NEO-PI-R paper each acknowledge that their analyses are exploratory and involve multiple comparisons; the NEO-PI-R authors note explicitly that they did not correct for multiple analyses and restricted discussion to large effect sizes as a partial safeguard [3].

What the experimental data show.
