Research
Mediumship under blinded conditions

A landmark study assessed ten Windbridge Certified Research Mediums in three counter-balanced conditions: blinded readings for living targets, blinded readings for deceased targets, and a control condition. Participants completed the Phenomenology of Consciousness Inventory (PCI) at baseline and after each condition. The results showed that in 74% of readings, mediums’ impressions accurately reflected whether the target was living or deceased, a finding statistically significant at p = .032.1
The phenomenological analysis revealed distinct patterns. Hypnoidal state scores (estimates of trance-like experience) were significantly elevated during both reading conditions compared to baseline and control. Both types of readings showed significantly higher PCI scores for altered time sense, imagery, imagery amount, and direction of attention, with significantly lower volitional control. Notably, readings for deceased targets produced significantly higher scores for the dimension of love (3.65 ± 0.63) compared to readings for living targets (2.75 ± 1.18; t[9] = 2.78, p = .02).1
Accuracy correlations differed between conditions. For living targets, global accuracy scores showed significant negative correlations with imagery vividness (r[6] = -0.76, p = .027) and absorption (r[6] = -0.74, p = .037). For deceased targets, no significant correlations emerged with individual PCI dimensions, though the correlation patterns between the two conditions differed significantly for positive affect and accuracy (z = 1.92, p = .027, one-tailed).1
Earlier work by Boccuzzi and Beischel examined anomalous information reception under beyond double-blind conditions, extending prior replication studies and demonstrating consistency in mediums’ ability to produce accurate statements about deceased targets when sensory cues were eliminated.6
Physiological correlates of mediumship have also been explored. A preliminary study examined hematological and psychophysiological measures in mediums during anomalous information reception tasks, investigating whether physiological markers could be associated with psi performance.5
Instrumental transcommunication and electronic voice phenomena

In a pilot study, Boccuzzi and Beischel examined real-time audio ITC sessions conducted by an experienced operator using EVPMaker software, which generates a random stream of allophones (short speech elements). The study compared ten Active Sessions (in which the operator reported receiving meaningful communication) with ten matched Control Sessions collected by the investigators. Multiple analyses were performed: examination of allophone distribution, independent blinded listening panel interpretations, content analysis of operator questions and perceived responses, and automated speech recognition analysis.
The findings were largely negative for the ITC hypothesis. No differences were found between Active and Control Sessions in either the allophones present or the proportions of participants who recognized words in the samples. Content analysis revealed that the operator’s perceived responses did not consistently contain information logically matching her questions. Automated speech recognition software was unable to detect the phrases the operator reported hearing.2
Despite these null results, the authors noted that future research might productively examine the psychology and motivation of ITC operators, the impact of perceived communication on users, and the potentially psi-conducive effects of using EVPMaker software to acquire information.2
Assessment instruments and survey methodology

Survey data were collected from self-identified mediums (n = 316) and non-mediums (n = 1,030) with no significant demographic differences in age or race. More than 80% of each sample reported being aware of all 10 phenomena. However, a significantly larger portion of mediums than non-mediums reported awareness of micropsychokinesis and macropsychokinesis (each p < .00001), and a significantly larger portion of mediums reported experiencing each of the 10 phenomena (all p < .0001).3
Precognitive remote viewing
Boccuzzi contributed to a recent study examining precognitive remote viewing (PRV) in two online experiments. The research investigated how trait, state, and target parameters relate to accuracy on PRV tasks. In the first experiment, 682 unpaid participants contributed 5,432 trials to a forced-choice, uncontrolled-time, self-judged PRV task. The second experiment involved 307 paid participants in a free-response, controlled-time, independently judged PRV task.
The forced-choice task showed no significant target precognition and no effect of age on PRV performance, though a complex effect of sex-at-birth emerged. Targets judged as more interesting were significantly more likely to be correctly predicted than targets judged as less interesting, a pre-registered finding. The free-response task revealed significant target precognition, no effect of age, and a weak indirect effect of gender. Feelings of unconditional love and anxiety were both correlated with higher accuracy in the free-response condition. Again, target interestingness was positively related to accuracy.4
Neurophysiological correlates
